Inspectors have been visiting construction sites state-wide throughout January and February to talk with principal contractors and site supervisors about the risks of silica dust and mental ill-health.

Inspectors will continue these visits throughout the month of March, given the criticality of these construction industry harms.

Since 11 January 2022, construction inspectors have undertaken:

  • 294 silica dust safety visits, with a further 586 sub-contractors also receiving guidance
  • 311 discussions to assist site supervisors in managing mental health hazards in construction.

Some useful resources for principal contractors and site supervisors can be found on our building and construction industry web page on the SafeWork NSW website, including our new dust safety poster.

We also have toolbox talks, safety checklists, fact sheets and safety podcasts, with simple safety tips and information.

Our small business rebate has been increased to $1,000 for eligible businesses to buy safety equipment to help keep workers safe.
